I am typing this on my phone from Terminal 5 at O’Hare in Chicago. My son and I left Southern Indiana at 7:00 am this morning. We had a great drive up north. It is so much fun talking with him. He and I have different views on a lot of subjects, but for the most part we are able to discuss things rationally.
The only downside of getting here so early is that now I can only wait outside of security with Kaylee’s cat. I figure the trip will be traumatic enough without dropping her down the baggage ramp five hours before the flight leaves. The worst part is that I let George leave before I visited the restroom; so now I just have to be miserable for a few hours.
George is seeing an absolutely lovely young lady he met his first year at Madison. It apparently took them almost 4 years to figure out they liked each other, but better late than never. He needed to drop me off early so he could see her before she moves to Kansas City. (Side note to my fraternity brother Alan… Watch over her for George.)
We were able to talk to Julie for a few minutes on the drive up. I had to make sure she has important things like a toothbrush for me. 😀. It turns out tomorrow is a holiday in Zurich. The holiday is Knabenschiessen. Which is a shooting competition for teenagers. I find it kind of funny that I am moving to a place that celebrates guns more than Wisconsin. Yet I couldn’t even bring one of my guns with me. Anyway, Julie and I get to spend the whole day together. That is pretty special.
George and I were also able to talk with Kaylee. She was recovering from the Badger game yesterday. She didn’t have any plans other than going to the library this evening.
Traveling with a pet is interesting. It seems everyone walking by has a question about the expense or difficulty of traveling with a pet. Side note. If I were not moving I would not be traveling with a pet. Though, I have met some awesome people in the hour or so I have been here. I guess the pet makes it easier to strike up a conversation.
I am going to wait here another hour. Then I will turn Eowyn over to the airline, and head to the Swiss Air lounge. There I am going to have a drink and wait in comfort for boarding to start. Hopefully, when I write my next post, I will have made it to Ruschlikon and reunited with Julie. Wish me luck!!! Auf Wiedersehen!!
