Well, we had a quiet weekend. Julie and I did a lot of hiking around the neighborhood Saturday and Sunday. We went on a 5 mile hike Saturday, and then took two hikes Sunday that combined went about 5 miles.

Since Julie is leaving for the US on Tuesday, we had Date Night at our favorite restaurant. It felt kind of strange to be recognized by our waiter. We lived in Greenville, for 25 years, and in that time, I don’t think we were ever recognized as being returning customers at any restaurant. Even though we had quite a few that we went to at least once a month. Here, it was a different story. Our favorite restaurant here is called La Pasta. It is a really good Italian eatery. They make everything fresh, and the serving staff has been the friendliest we have come across. Not to mention they have the absolute BEST cheesecake we have ever tasted. Anyway, we walked in the owner welcomed us and took us to our seats. Then our waiter came by, He immediately recognized us, and started talking about the last time we were in. He even remembered two visits ago, when our kids were with us. He asked about the kids, and laughed and said my German was getting better. It was a pretty small thing, but it did make us feel kind of special.

I also learned my lesson about art this weekend. When I was taking the visitors through Zürich a couple of weeks ago, I found this painting that I absolutely fell in love with. I should have found the price and bought it, but I waited until Julie could come down and look with me. Of course by that time, it was gone. 🙁 Next time I’ll just have to spend Julie’s money; after all she is the one that dragged me Switzerland!

The excitement this weekend was the ants. Spring is starting to arrive, so the bugs are beginning to wake. I had just come upstairs from the laundry room, and Julie began screaming. I thought she had fallen and broken her leg, or something like that. I tear into the bedroom, and it looks like she is dancing. She was literally trying to stomp hundreds of ants. They are coming up the wall and through the window. Of course since every thing is closed on Sunday, it isn’t like I can pop over to the hardware store and buy ant poison. So we spend at least an hour going through everything in the bedroom, and trying to get every ant. I am sure there are still 100’s crawling around the house, but Julie found some insecticide that the previous occupants had left. So I sprayed both outside and inside around the window. So at least for now, the ants are not streaming in. I am sure they will find another entrance though; so first thing tomorrow I am running to the Bau and Hobby to buy poison. I called the landlord and told him that I expected someone to be out this week spraying the outside of the building, but I am not going to hold my breath about that one. I guess the good thing is that Julie will be gone for a couple of weeks, so she won’t have to deal with the ants.

That is about it from Switzerland this week. Don’t forget to wash your hands!

    1. Oh they are freaking out a little! I really hope she still gets to head back. Of course once she is there, I hope she will be able to get back into Switzerland! 🙂 I know you are heading over soon, I hope your Italy plans don’t get canceled, but honestly, right now as long as you are going south you should be OK.
